Five time world motocross champion, Jeffrey Herlings just isn’t going away in this years MXGP championship. Despite suffering two major technical issues in the last month or so, that have cost him easily 40 points, the HRC man went 1-2 for victory and while he didn’t close the gap on series leader Lucas Coenen by too much, it was enough to keep the fight alive.

Jeffrey Herlings: At the beginning I was scared Lucas would pass me and then get Tim and win the GP. I tried to pass Tim so many times, but I then thought I just get second and get the overall. I am looking forward to Portugal next weekend.

Lucas Coenen: I am so happy to be on the podium. I didn't expect anything and I was a bit scared out there. I had an issue with the goggles and I am happy to be on the podium and if you told me at the beginning of the weekend, I would be on the podium, I wouldn't have believed you.

Coenen finished second overall with 3-3 results and third was Maxime Renaux with 2-6 scores. World championship points are now Lucas Coenen 449 points, Jeffrey Herlings 393pts, Romain Febvre 347pts, Tim Gajser 329pts, Maxime Renaux 305pts.

MXGP Moto Two

Adamo with the lead in the second MXGP moto, from Gajser, Vialle, Coenen, Herlings, although Herlings in a wild pass moved into third and then fighting hard to get into second place and he did, before a mistake and dropping back to sixth.

Coenen then a mistake and dropped back behind Herlings. Wild scenes with riders knowing getting to the front on this track is very important. Herlings into third and the top ten on lap two was Adamo, Gajser, Herlings, Coenen, Renaux, Pancar, Oliver, Febvre and Jonass.

Coenen into fourth place with a pass on Vialle and Herlings trying to make up 2.5 seconds to get to the two front men. Adamo nearly took Gajser out with a quick change of lines and that helped Herlings get a little closer. Herlings all over Gajser and Adamo, with Coenen dropping off their pace a little.

A four-way battle for the lead, same as they had in the second MX2 moto, as Coenen joined the part, but then Adamo made a mistake as Gajser went past and Gajser into the lead, Herlings second and Coenen now third, with Adamo back in fourth.

Gajser continued to lead, with Herlings and Coenen similar distances back, but nobody banging bars after six laps. Despite the closness of the top three, not a lot happening in this stage of the race, with more than a second separating each rider.

Top ten on lap eight was Gajser. Herlings, Coenen, Adamo, Vialle, Renaux, Pancar, Febvre, Jonass and Vlaanderen. Herlings clicking the quickest laps and again all over Gajser for the lead, with Coenen 2.3 back.

On lap 11 the gaps opened as Gajser held a 2.7 over Herlings and Herlings a further second over Coenen. Gajser wins the moto, Herlings the GP and Coenen continues to lead the championship points.
