Febvre Wins Moto One
Romain Febvre for France has won the opening MXGP/MX2 moto, but his team-mate, Mathis Valin DNFed in the opening lap, to put France well back in the overall results. Team Spain with Jorge Prado and Guillem Farres are the leaders, with 2-4 results and Team Belgium also inside the top five overall with 3-12 scores. Pascal Haudiquert image
Romain Febvre: I didn't know he was out and its a shame for Mathis, but that is Nations and its like this. Lucky we can take one result off and that is our joker and we need to be consistent. Two motos to go and to win a race at Nations is just crazy and I am living that moment. We try and win the next one.
In the team results its Spain with six points, Belgium 15 points, The Netherlands 23 points, Australia 32 points, Latvia 33pts, USA 35pts, Denmark 35pts, Switzerland 37pts, Italy 38pts, Great Britain 39pts and France 41pts.
MXGP/MX2 Moto
Prado led the opening moto from Febvre, Coenen. Fredsoe, Talviku, Santos, Valin, Kitchen, Pancar and Farres. Coldenhoff was 11th, McLellan 12th, Sasha Coenen in 17th place and Beaumer was 18th. Beaton and Larwood for Australia way back in 17th and 25th. Valin out of the race and suddenly France in trouble. Farres moving up from his ninth spot to fifth and Spain the early leaders in the team situation.
Farres into fourth place and looking very fast today. On lap one the lead by Prado was three seconds and Coenen was eight seconds back in third place, with Farres 13 seconds back. McLellan also making up ground fast as he moved into seventh place and Kitchen dropped to 8th place. Sasha Coenen not making much ground from his slow start but did move into 16th.
Febvre started catching Prado and no doubt the massive French crowd will help him get to the Spaniard. Coenen nine seconds off the two leaders and Farres 16 seconds back. Team USA riders were 8th and 11th in Kitchen and Beaumer. The Netherlands 12th and 16th with Van De Moosdijk and Coldenhoff and Sasha Coenen up to 15th spot.
Prado a mistake and that handed the lead to Febvre, but Spain still holding down second and fourth, with Belgium probably next best with three and 13th. Lucas Coenen now all over Prado for second place. Team USA now 8th and 10th, with Kitchen and Beaumer and Sasha Coenen up to 11th spot. Sasha a mistake and he dropped back to 14th place.
Beaton for Australia up to 12th place and making some good passes. On lap eight it was Febvre with a nine second lead over Prado, then Coenen in third and 12 seconds back, followed by Farres, Talviku, Pancar, McLellan, Kitchen, Forato and Beaumer.
Lucas Coenen now catching Prado and just two seconds behind the Spaniard, while Forato is catching Kitchen for eighth place. Febvre held 12 seconds over Prado. Non-European riders really struggling, with Team USA riders in 8th and 10th, Team Australia rider’s 12th and 21st and Team South Africa 7th and 33rd.
Top ten on lap 12 was Febvre, Prado, Coenen, Farres, Pancar, Talviku, McLellan, Kitchen, Forato, Beaumer in 10th. Kitchen a problem after a crash and he dropped from 8th to outside the top 20 to 25th spot. Forato passed McLellan for sixth place and Talviku also closing up to the South African. Febvre wins it from Prado and Lucas Coenen.
