Valin Wins Germany
Kawasai factory rider, Mathis Valin has won the MX2 overall in Germany today with a very solid 2-1 performance. The Frenchman was solid all day, but the drama was a penalty for Sasha Coenen, who had won the opening moto, and was running second in moto two, before he jumped a yellow flag and was penalized five points. The podium top three were, Mathis Valin 47 points, Sacha Coenen 47pts and Camden Mc Lellan 35pts (although awaiting the changes after the loss of points for Coenen).
Coenen still led the championship with a three point advantage over Simon Langenfelder, who had an average day in his home Grand Prix. Championship points are Sacha Coenen 320 points, Simon Längenfelder 317pts, Guillem Farres 301pts, Liam Everts 281pts, Camden Mc Lellan 278pts.
Mathis Valin: I am more consistent with the starts. I put pressure on Sasha and he crashed. I passed for the lead and it wasn't easy, as he was behind me, but I finally got the overall win. It feels good. First moto was good we had a battle with Sasha and then I knew I needed to push and he crashed. I am happy and a good weekend. Three podiums in a row.
MX2 Moto Two
Rain again greeted the riders for the start of the second MX2 race and again, it was Coenen with the holeshot and early lead. Following Coenen was Valin, Langenfelder, Farres, Janis Reisulis, Lata, Karssemakers, McLellan and Zanocz 10th.
The rain continued to fall and the lead by Coenen on lap two was 2.4 seconds, with Langenfelder 5.4 back, then came Farres, Reisulis, Lata, Karssemakers, McLellan, Everts and Zanchi. Pouring rain now as Valin remained a couple of seconds behind Coenen, with Langenfelder six seconds back.
Coenen a mistake and Valin into the lead and Langenfelder also passed the Belgian. Coenen quickly repassed the German and Coenen going after Valin, who at this point led the GP. Lap five it was Valin with a 4.4 second lead over Coenen, then Langenfelder, Farres, Reisulis, McLellan, Lata, Everts, and Karssemakers 10th.
Under dark clouds, the leading MX2 riders tried to combat the rough conditions, as the lead by Valin dropped to 3.7 seconds, with Langenfelder six seconds behind Valin, and Farres eight seconds behind the leader.
Coenen continued to close the gap on Valin, with it 2.3 on lap eight, while Langenfelder was losing ground on his fellow KTM rider. Coenen all over Valin now and without doubt the fastest MX2 rider this weekend.
Valin started putting in some solid laps as he kept the lead around two seconds and the gap to third placed Langenfelder also remained around 6.2 seconds. Mikula a crash and Coenen again all over Coenen for the lead.
The muddy, rutted German circuit continued to bring riders into problems, but Valin and Coenen showing great speed up front. Coenen backed off and signed to the officials, possibly having jumped a yellow flag. The distance to Valin was now three seconds. Coenen a penalty and that will probably cost him any chance of a GP win. A placed, so the GP is gone now.
Valin wins the moto, the GP and second in the moto was Simon Langenfelder, with Farres third in the race. Coenen, who was second in the moto, dropped his five points.
