In front of some really excited fans, Red Bull KTM factory rider, Sasha Coenen has done a demolition job on the best 250 riders in America with a flag-to-flag victory by the young Belgian rider. The final lap celebrations by Coenen and the positive response from the fans what is what makes motocross so cool.
Sasha Coenen: I had a good start and I did some good riding and having fun and I love the American fans.
Making his second appearance in America, the teenager is just showing, he might be the best 250 rider in the world, although Guillem Farres (who has been in brilliant form in MX2) might have something to say about that.
Coenen led the opening 250 moto and was just wild in the opening laps, both with speed and at times, his at times erratic style. He claimed a three second lead really quickly and was just on another planet.
After five minutes, the lead was 4.3 seconds and also riding well was EMX250 leader, Garcia, who was in 8th place. Top ten was Coenen, Davies, DeFrancesco, Hymas, Cochran, Mumford, Beaumer, Kitchen, Garcia and Thrasher.
Coenen just on another planet as he lead was up to 7.3 seconds, with Davies a couple of seconds ahead of third placed man, DeFrancesco. Cannon struggling a little, with 15th place early, then 16th position.
The lead was 11 seconds as the race entered the second half of the moto, with Davies still two seconds ahead of third place, and Hymas a second behind third. Kitchen riding well after crashing early and was back in sixth place, after dropping to 10th.
Davies crashed in second and a handful of riders went past, as Davies struggled to get his bike going and was back in 10th place. Garcia up to eight place and showing great speed for an EMX250 rider.
That crash by Davies meant the lead by Coenen was now more than 16 seconds. Lead got to 20 seconds as the race hit the halfway mark. Garcia was up to seventh and Cannon was 14th. Great showing by the two Kawasaki men. Kitchen close to the riders in second and third and doing a brilliant job after his crash.
Cannon a mistake via big crash and back around 20th, as the lead by Coenen was now 23 seconds. Kitchen nearly a crash when a lapped rider got it wrong, and Kitchen all over Hymas for third spot. Coenen winning by more than 30 seconds.
