MXGP 2027 - The Big Boys
There is no doubt, while we have lost Lucs and Sasha Coenen for the 2027 MXGP season, there is a lot to look forward to next year with a bunch of changes in the MXGP class. Of course, defending champion Jeffrey Herlings will line-up alongside Tom Vialle on the HRC machine and those two proved to be two of the main stars of this 2026 championship chase.
Romain Febvre of course heads to Ducati and his results will be closely watched, because if anyone can get the Italian machine on the podium on a regular basis, it’s the two-time World MXGP champion from France.
It will also be exciting to see how the Triumph boys do, with both Guillem Farres, the 2026 MX2 champion, and Mikkel Haarup sure to surprise the big bike boys. Farres has been spectacular this year and Haarup also showed in USA that he will be a force on the 450 in Europe.
Ruben Fernandez on the Yamaha and Maxime Renaux on the KTM will be interesting and maybe both can improve those brands performances next year. No doubt, Kay De Wolf and Andrea Adamo on the same teams in 2027 as they rode in 2026 will make their second years in MXGP an easier won and both could be GP winners next year.
Will the change of team in the Yamaha set-up add something for Tim Gajser to find his old form, or will it again be something of a struggle on the blue machine?
I would not be surprised to see Calvin Vlaanderen also shock some people, being back on Honda, after a tough period on the Ducati. So many big names in the class, with again 20 world championships won between nine riders.
