Hunter vs Ken - This Weekend
Hunter Lawrence and Ken Roczen will take it to Philadelphia this weekend to work out who is going to be the man for the 2026 AMA supercross championship. It is a tight race in the points and no doubt, experience vs youth is the key. Kan Kenny finally put himself in the position to be a champion indoors?
KEN ROCZEN: (2-2-1) Clinches his 3rd win in 4 rounds with a 2-2-1 result, moving him to a single point behind Hunter Lawrence (6th overall) for the points lead. It was his 27th career 450SX Class victory, tying Bob Hannah for 10th on the all-time wins list. His 55th SMX League victory moves him only one behind Jeff Ward for 11th all-time. Roczen gave Suzuki their 80th 450SX Class victory (363 SMX League victories) and is their 3rd winningest SMX League and 450SX Class athlete. His 10th Triple Crown race win is good for 2nd all-time and he becomes the 4th athlete with multiple 450SX Class Triple Crown overalls (Tomac- 8, Webb- 6, Sexton- 3, Roczen- 2).
COOPER WEBB: (5-4-2) Moves into 3rd in the point standings with a runner-up overall in Cleveland. He has cut his deficit to Lawrence to 22 points after his 83rd career 450SX Class podium (7th all-time). Making his 284th career SMX League start, Webb became only the 11th athlete in SMX League history to reach 180 career SMX League top-5 finishes (63%). He also tied Marvin Musquin for 12th with his 127th SMX League podium and moved within 4 podiums of the top-5 with his 83rd 450SX Class podium.
JUSTIN COOPER: (3-1-7) Earned his 2nd career 450SX Class Triple Crown race win but fell short of the overall and settled for his 8th 450SX Class podium in 52 starts. Is still seeking his 1st 450SX Class victory and would be the 25th different 450SX Class winner aboard a Yamaha. His 68th career SMX League podium ties him with Blake Baggett for 32nd on the all-time SMX League podiums list and his 112th SMX League top-5 ties him with Kent Howerton for 30th on the all-time SMX League top-5’s list.
NOTES: Chase Sexton (4th, 7-3-4): 68th career 450SX Class top-5 finish (89 starts) ties David Vuillemin for 16th all-time and his 153rd SMX League top-5 finish (213 starts) holds him steady for 17th all-time. Joey Savatgy (5th, 6-7-6): 10th career 450SX Class top-5 finish, 3rd this season. Currently sits in a 450SX Class career best 7th in the point standings. Jett and Hunter are the only 2 Supercross athletes with multiple Triple Crown race wins in both classes.
450/250 Venue Notes:
HISTORY LESSON: Supercross embarks on the “City of Brotherly Love” for the 5th time in the sport’s 50 + year history. A 1980 Saturday-Sunday doubleheader at JFK Stadium and the last 2 seasons at Lincoln Financial Field make up the previous 4 visits. Philly went a record 43 years (1981-2023) between hosting Supercross before the 2024 revival. In 1973 Pro Motocross held a unique stadium round in JFK Stadium, with Pierre Karsmakers (Yamaha) scoring the 500 Class victory.
1980 DOUBLEHEADER: The weekend consisted of two rounds held August 9-10 and doubled as the season’s penultimate weekend. Mike Bell (Yamaha) won Saturday night and finished third on Sunday, clinching the 450SX Class title. Bell’s teammate Broc Glover won the Sunday edition. John F. Kennedy Stadium was demolished in 1992, and Lincoln Financial Field was built in 2002 on the same property.
RETURN IN 2024: Rookie phenom Jett Lawrence (Honda) entered round 15 Philly with the red plate by a mere 5 points over a resurgent Cooper Webb (Yamaha) in 2024. Lawrence gained 7 points on the then two-time champ with his 7th victory to extend a points lead he held through the final 2 rounds. Chase Sexton (KTM) and Jason Anderson (Kawasaki) rounded out the podium ahead of Webb in 4th. Sexton improved his 2024 finish with a victory in last season’s Philly Supercross, with Webb & Roczen (Suzuki) in tow.
250SX PENNSYLVANIA HISTORY: Pennsylvania never hosted a 250SX Class round before 2024. All 450SX Class rounds held in the state pre-dated the 250SX Class Championship. Tom Vialle (KTM) entered Lincoln Financial Field with a 13-point lead over Haiden Deegan (Yamaha) and extended his red plate advantage with a runner-up. Max Anstie (Honda) scored the win, cementing a top-5 Championship finish in the Eastern Divisional. Last season Philly hosted a Showdown, and Cole Davies beat Deegan & RJ Hampshire (Husqvarna) who rounded out the podium.
