Five-time world motocross champion, Jeffrey Herlings has taken victory in the opening moto of the Foxhill GP, but more importantly for the Dutchman, Lucas Coenen DNFed the race with some type of issue, more likely physical than mechanical.

The point gap was shortened from 68 points to 36 points, with that possibly being cut to 11pts if Herlings can win moto two and Coenen not able to race the second race. Championship is alive again? Bavo Swijgers image

Jeffrey Herlings: I mean, so much can happen in a championship and I felt sorry for Lucas in that first race, I don't want to close in points like that, I don't like it. I feel fresh and look forward to moto two. Anything can happen in a championship and its a long way to go, its part of racing.

MXGP Moto One

Herlings led the opening MXGP moto, from Gajser, Vialle, Febvre, Fernandez, Pancar, Jonass, Seewer, Horgmo, Coenen. Coenen dropped to 11th as Renaux moved into the top ten. Herlings not getting away from Gajser and Vialle sticking with those two, Coenen up to ninth place, but already 10 seconds behind the leaders.

Jonass out of sixth place with a crash and the gap between Herlings and Gajser was less than a second. Coenen back to 12th place and really struggling with his injury from his accident yesterday. Coenen back to 13th as Hammal passed him, but repassed the British rider.

Coenen slowing and maybe not healthy enough to finish this race. He drophim but in the pack and pulling to the side of the track. Coenen back in 26th place as Herlings is looking at maximum points. Top ten was Herlings, Gajser, Vialle, Febvre, Fernandez, Adamo, Seewer, Pancar, Renaux, Vlaanderen. Coenen out of the race.

On lap five Herlings was two seconds ahead of Gajser, with Vialle four seconds back and Febvre five seconds back in fourth. Next up came Fernandez, Adamo, Pancar, Seewer, Renaux, Vlaanderen in 10th. Herlings looking splendid in first, with 2.4 over Gajser, but otherwise, not a lot happening.

Gajser catching Herlings with the gap now 1.2 seconds, with Vialle three seconds back and Febvre four seconds back. Nine laps in and 10 minutes remaining, and that is usually go time for the Dutchman. Herlings made the gap 1.4, but still worried about Gajser behind him no doubt.

Gajser turned it up a little and the gap was just one second, however Vialle is four seconds off the leader and Febvre now 4.6 back. Adamo was fourth, then Fernandez, Pancar, Oliver, Renaux, and Seewer 10th.

Herlings opened up the gap to 1.6 seconds, so not allowing Gajser to get too close. Vlaanderen crashed and dropped back, and Hammal still doing well in 12th place and the top British rider. Vlaanderen now 16th.

Lap 14 and two minutes remaining and two laps, the lead by Herlings was 1.1 seconds, with Vialle 3.8 back and Febvre 4.8 back. Then Fernandez, Adamo, Pancar, Renaux, Seewer, Horgmo in 10th. Febvre passed Valle for third place as he crashed and dropped back and Herlings made the gap 1.8 again. Herlings opened up the gap to Gajser and wins it from Gajser and Febvre.
