HRC factory rider and the greatest GP winner of all time, Jeffrey Herlings has gone 1-1 at Foxhill today and closed the points gap to Lucas Coenen to just 11points as the talented Belgian went DNF-DNF for zero points. Drama in England today and in many ways a very sad day for the talented Belgian brothers.

It was of course the 118th GP win by the Dutchman. Second overall was Romain Febvre with 3-2 results and third was Tim Gajser with 2-3 scores. Bavo Swijgers image.

Jeffrey Herlings: Once again, I don't like to take 50 points this way and I wish Lucas well and I hope he is in Loket or back soon and we get many battles. A little gift for this one, but thanks to HRC, what a great job they have done. During the second moto I was struggling with the shadows (from the sun getting low) and we had a medical flag for Paul Jonass, I hope he is okay. Super pumped about my day, two black plates and two moto wins. Looking forward to Loket.

Championship points are now Lucas Coenen 566 points, Jeffrey Herlings 555pts, Romain Febvre 494pts, Tim Gajser 452pts and Maxime Renaux 392pts. I think everyone hopes Lucas can make Loket next weekend.

MXGP Moto Two

Herlings again with the lead in the second MXGP moto over Valle, Gajser, Febvre, Seewer, Fernandez, Adamo, Watson, Renaux, Vlaanderen and Coenen in 19th spot. Herlings really on it today and Febvre moved into third as he passed Vialle. Coenen quickly up to 12th position and fighting a lot of pain but fighting on.

Herlings quickly a 1.6 second gap over Gajser, with Febvre 3.2 back in third and Vialle on the back wheel of his countryman. Coenen a wild ride around Geerts for 10th place but taking a bit of a risk there.

Herlings probably wishing Gajser would just leave him alone, but the other five-time world champion pushing to stay with “The Bullet”. The gap remained a second between Herlings and Gajser as Febvre losing grip on those two and four seconds back in third. Coenen still 11th and 20 seconds off the leaders.

Herlings opened the gap to two seconds, but Gajser then dropped it under two seconds as those two continue to show their class in this tough MXGP field. Coenen not getting away from Geerts and could start to feel the pain soon.

Herlings the best lap of the race to open the gap to more than two seconds and Geerts passed Coenen, dropping the KTM man to 12th place, with Brent Van Doninck also closing up on Coenen. Coenen dropping off the track and again a DNF. Very sad for this brilliant young Belgian teenager.

Gajser again closed up on Herlings for the lead, as he clocked the best lap of the race so far, and Febvre also closing up on Herlings, with the gap to third place just 2.7 seconds. Can’t see Herlings fighting too hard for the lead, as he is already having a big day for the championship.

Lap six and the lead by Herlings was half a second, with Febvre still around three seconds back in third, then came Fernandez, Adamo, Vialle, Jonass, Seewer, Horgmo, and Gifting 10th. Both Gajser and Febvre not allowing Herlings walk away with the moto as they hound the Honda man.

On lap nine and 12 minutes remaining, the lead by Herlings was just a second, with Febvre 2.4 back in third place. Get the feeling maybe Herlings is just riding to the level needed, which seems to be something many riders are doing these days. You cannot get a much better top three, with 12 world championships between the Dutchman, Slovenian and Frenchman.

Herlings doing a brilliant job up front and seemingly in total control, with both Gajser and Febvre watching the leader from close combat. As Gajser gets closer, Herlings gets away again. Herlings knows that no mistakes are a must and maybe top three is enough today?

Febvre passed Gajser for second as the Slovenian crashed and the Frenchman now going after Herlings, however the gap between Herlings and Febvre is now two seconds. I would imagine Herlings will try and get away from the Frenchman, as he knows Febvre rides tough. Gajser 10 seconds back in third place. Febvre cuts the lead to less than a second and you can bet Herlings is very nervous. Herlings pushing to get away from Febvre and the gap was over a second with three minutes and two laps remaining. Herlings opened the gap to two seconds on lap 14 with three laps remaining.

Herlings wins the moto from Febvre and Gajser and that was also the top three in the overall stats. Herlings now just 11 points off the red place with Loket just a week away and the appearance of Coenen there not known.
