Series leader, Jeffrey Herlings has won the opening MXGP moto in Sweden this afternoon. The Dutchman riding on the HRC factory machine took the lead in the opening corner and just did his own thing. Jeffrey Herlings: Man, these starts really help me and I am pumped about that. I want to give it to Honda for the great job and I feel like I am in a good spot and I need to just be smart and get another good start in the second one and be there.

Championship points are now Jeffrey Herlings 710 points, Romain Febvre 597pts, Lucas Coenen 566pts, Tim Gajser 555pts, Andrea Adamo 469pts. Herlings with 113 point lead going into moto two.

MXGP Moto One

Herlings with the lead into turn two of the opening MXGP moto, then came Jonass, Vialle, Adamo, Febvre, Fernandez, Gajser, de Wolf, Renaux, and Pancar. Herlings quickly getting away as Jonass will hold up the field and “The Bullet” makes the most of that. Febvre back to sixth place and that is what Herlings wants for the championship.

De Wolf a mistake and he dropped back to 12th spot and the lead by Herlings was three seconds, with Jonass holding his own in second, with a one second gap to Vialle, who was third. Gifting into 10th place, and the huge Swedish crowd more than happy with that. Gifting a mistake and he dropped back in the field.

Lap two the lead by Herlings was still around three seconds, with Vialle now onto the back wheel of Jonass and Adamo and Gajser looking to get to the front in fourth and fifth. Gajser two or three mistakes and then a big one as he crashed out of fifth and dropped back to around 10th place.

Herlings breaking away from Jonass and Vialle, who were fighting for third and the remaining top ten was Adamo, Febvre, Fernandez, Renaux, Gajser, Seewer and de Wolf. Herlings extended his lead to 4.3 and he starts to really turn up the heat with the gap going to 6.3 on the next lap.

Lap seven and the lead was 8.6 by Herlings as Jonass and Vialle continue to fight for second place and Adamo and Febvre battle over fourth and fifth. Seewer a crash and sat on the side of the track. Lap 10 the lead by Herlings was 11 seconds ahead of Jonass, and 12 seconds over Vialle.

Pretty impressive when you see the best laps times and all the way back to 20th only three seconds a lap off the pace of Herlings best lap. Five minutes remaining and Herlings was cruising and with a 12 second lead. Herlings wins from Jonass and Vialle.
