Coenen Wins MXGP Moto
Belgian teenager, Lucas Coenen is without question the man of the moment and his dominant victory in the opening MXGP moto in Sardinia was special to watch. A poor start, passing all his rivals and then just blowing away from everyone. Second was early leader Jeffrey Herlings, with third going to Romain Febvre.
Lucas Coenen: I mean, it was decent, not the best with the start, but then I controlled and found some new lines and passed some guy and then watch the lines of Jeffrey and made a pass. I saved some energy in the last laps, so its good.
Championship points are now Lucas Coenen 167 points, Jeffrey Herlings 156pts, Tom Vialle 150pts, Romain Febvre 142pts and Tim Gajser 136pts.
MXGP Moto One
Vialle with the holeshot, Oliver second and Herlings third, then Coenen sixth, with Febvre also in the mix. Top ten was Vialle, Oliver, Herlings, Febvre, Coenen, Fernandez, de Wolf, Adamo, Forato, and Jonass 10th. Gajser at the back of the pack in 22nd, and Herlings into the lead. Coenen moved past Febvre and the Belgian into fourth place.
Coenen into third place and now chasing down the two HRC men. Herlings lead was 2.2 seconds, he knows the Belgian teenager is coming. Top ten was Herlings, Vialle, Coenen, Oliver, Febvre, de Wolf, Fernandez, Adamo, Jonass, and Forato.
Herlings now a three second lead over Vialle, but then Coenen moving past the Frenchman and into second. Coenen cut the lead by Herlings to two seconds and de Wolf all over Febvre for fifth place. Gap now 1.7 and Coenen is coming for the leader.
Lap five and the gap was just over a second and Coenen was looking to make a pass on the leader. Vialle four seconds back in third, then Febvre, de Wolf, Oliver, Fernandez, Adamo, Forato and Bonacorsi 10th.
Coenen into the lead with a nice pass on the Dutchman and quickly 1.4 ahead. New guard and old guard and maybe the future of this season put in place on that pass. Coenen opens to 2.4 seconds with Vialle 8.5 back.
Coenen now seven seconds ahead of Herlings and flying to another victory. Febvre all over the back wheel of Vialle and take third place on lap 10. Top ten was now Coenen, Herlings, Febvre, Vialle, de Wolf, Fernandez, Oliver, Adamo, Forato, Jonass.
The Coenen show continued with the lead 15 seconds and de Wolf moved past Vialle, who continues to struggle and then the Frenchman crashed and handed Fernandez fifth place. Top ten on lap 12 was Coenen, Herlings, Febvre, de Wolf, Fernandez, Vialle, Oliver, Adamo, Forato and Jonass. Coenen wins it from Herlings and Febvre.
