Coenen Wins in Chaos
Lucas Coenen continues to show his talents with victory in the MXGP qualification race in Trentino today. After looking very slow in practice, the Belgian teenager burst out of the start and led the race early. He showed consistent laps to win ahead of Tom Vialle and Andrea Adamo.
Lucas Coenen: As you could see I struggled big time in time practice and I had no flow. The track is sketchy and I don't like these conditions. Tomorrow I hope they put more water down.
Tom Vialle: I had a great start and that was nice. Its a tough track to pass, so the start is important. Its tough to pass, so we need a good start tomorrow.
Andrea Adamo: This is what we needed. I nearly got the holeshot, but post positions to Lucas and Tom.
MXGP Qualification Race
Coenen with the lead in the MXGP qualifier, from Vialle, Adamo, Fernandez, Vlaanderen, Pancar, Lapucci, Febvre, Forato, Benistant and Herlings 11th. De Wolf into 10th place and Herlings quickly into seventh. Gajser in 12th place, Renaux 22nd and Vlaanderen crashed with Pancar and Sterry.
Coenen showing that speed we are getting use to with a 1.2 second lead over Vialle, with Adamo 3.5 back and Herlings into fifth and 6.3 further down the track from the leader. Gajser into sixth place and also flying.
Herlings into fourth position and de Wolf fifth. A lot of guys with bad starts very quickly into the top spots. Herlings a crash and dropping well back from the field as he struggled to get his bike going. Sterry again down, and its chaos here in Trentino.
Top ten on lap two was Coenen, Vialle, Adamo, de Wolf, Gajser, Forato, Oliver, Fernandez, Guadaganini, Bonacorsi and Watson 10th. Vialle not allowing Coenen to get away and Oliver also crashes. Febvre also an issue and out of the race.
Lap three and the lead of Coenen was 1.5 seconds, with Adamo five seconds off the leader, with Herlings moving into 15th place after being well back in the field. Coenen and Vialle already lapping riders as Herlings moved into 14th spot.
Herlings into 13th place and all over Benistant and Forato as the Dutchman moved into 11th place. Vialle catching Coenen as this race continues to give. De Wolf also moving closer to Adamo for third place.
Top ten on lap six was Coenen, Vialle, Adamo, de Wolf, Gajser, Fernandez, Guadagnini, Bonacorsi, Renaux, Watson and Herlings. Herlings with four riders in front and all close enough for the HRC man to get to them. Herlings into 10th place with a pass on Watson.
On lap nine the top ten was Coenen, Vialle, de Wolf, Gajser, Fernandez, Guadagnini, Renaux, Bonacorsi, and Herlings. Vialle not allowing Coenen to get away from him, as he was just a second behind. Herlings into ninth with a pass on Bonacorsi. Coenen wins it from Vialle and Adamo.
