Red Bull KTM factory rider, Lucas Coenen has again dominated the opposition, with a blazing start, and the teenager was never headed. Riding very much like a Belgian version of Jett Lawrence, Coenen just cruised at his own pace and never looked in any trouble. Second was defending world champion, Romain Febvre, who tried to hang as long as possible with Coenen and third was Paul Jonass.

Lucas Coenen: It was a good one. Romain and I battled for the first corner and I managed to get the lead and we pulled away, so the riding was good.

MXGP Qualification race

Coenen and Febvre with the lead in the MXGP qualification race, but Herlings, who started on the outside of the starting gate was blocked in the first corner and was mid-pack. Top ten was Coenen, Febvre, Jonass, Vialle, Vlaanderen, Fernandez, Gajser, Elzinga, Adamo and Renaux. Herlings in 11th after being around 15th.

Coenen flying up front and Febvre not able to stay with him. The lead was 1.6, with Jonass 5.3 back in third. Herlings 13 seconds off the lead in 11th still. Herlings did eventually pass Renaux for 10th place. Not a track you can make up a lot of time, so fast.

Herlings into ninth place, but now 16 seconds off the lead of Coenen. Top ten was Coenen with a two second lead over Febvre, with Jonass 7.4 back, Vialle 8.8 back and Vlaanderen very impressive on the Ducati 10.7 seconds off the leader.

Febvre closing the gap on Coenen, and Herlings all over Adamo for eight place. Fernandez a mistake as both Adamo and Herlings went past and the Spaniard dropping down the field quickly. Herlings into seventh with a pass on Adamo, but the gap to Gajser was five seconds.

Herlings not looking very comfortable on this fast circuit. Lap five it was Coenen, with Febvre all over the back wheel of the Belgian kid. Third placed Jonass was 10 seconds back, then came Vialle, Vlaanderen, Gajser, Herlings, Adamo, Renaux and Oliver now 10th.

Herlings closed up on Gajser with just three seconds separating those two, and those two catching Vlaanderen and Vialle, with three laps remaining. Gajser a mistake and he dropped to nine, with Herlings up to sixth place. Coenen wins it from Febvre and Jonass.
