The 2026 Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores heads to Canberra on Sunday, April 19 for round two of the season which is already shaping up to deliver so much promise.

The two-day opening round at Wonthaggi really set the tone for what's to follow for the rest of the season – tough, hard but brilliant racing that features several contenders from varying manufacturers.

The points leaders in each of the classes on the event schedule in the nation's capital this weekend are Jed Beaton (Kawsaki MX1), Alex Larwood (Pirelli MX2), Jack Deveson (Maxxis MX3) and Blake Bohannon (Fox Racing MX85), and all will be keen to step it up a notch to continue the strong starts to their respective campaigns.

Coming up for all riders this weekend at Fairbairn Park is a 1.54km hard-pack track which features on the ProMX calendar for the second consecutive year, having made a successive return to the roster for the first time since 2021.

Run by the ACT Motorcycle Club, the course consists of an 80-metre long start straight and 15 turns, with the fastest riders sitting at an average speed of 60km/h and a unique feature is ‘The Three Sisters’ – three table top jumps in a row.

With the event schedule consisting of practice, qualifying and racing with action from Australia’s best riders, the stage is set for the second stop on the ProMX calendar.

How to watch round two at Canberra:

9:45am - 12:30pm AEST – livestream (www.auspromx.com.au and the ProMX Facebook page)

1:00pm - 4:00pm AEST – live coverage (SBS Sport, SBS On Demand, Stan Sport and

Sky Sport NZ)

9:45am - 4:00pm AEST – livestream (FIM-MOTO.TV)

Wonthaggi was the perfect start for Beaton (Yamaha, Vic) whose blistering performance at the Victorian-based opener saw him put his opposition on notice as he set out on his mission to be number one in the premiere class of the ProMX Championship come season's end.

Not far behind him are two of his biggest rivals – reigning champion Kyle Webster (Honda, Vic) and four-time MX1 champion Dean Ferris (Kawasaki, Qld) – who are equal second on 42pts, and they're aiming to get onto the winner's list sooner than later.

Others looking to get into the action and contest for trophies this weekend include Todd Waters (Husqvarna, Qld), Aaron Tanti (Yamaha, Qld), Wilson Todd (Honda, Qld), Luke Zielinski (Yamaha, Qld) and Zachary Watson (KTM, Qld) who are well inside the upper echelon of the battle pack. For Tanti, this is his first ProMX event at Canberra since 2021, where he recorded eighth and nineth place finishes respectively. Back then, he was on a GasGas!

The one to watch on the starting gates this weekend is Nathan Crawford, who has switched to MotoCoach Elite Racing aboard Honda machinery following his split with KTM Racing Team after round one. Thirteenth in the points after the Wonthaggi round, the key for Crawford will be how quickly he can adapt to the CRF450R model in race trim and in-turn, challenge for podium finishes and moto wins.

Having finished fifth and fourth respectively in the overall MX2 standings over the last two years, Alex Larwood (Honda, SA) has a huge opportunity to build on the strong momentum from Wonthaggi – where he finished with two moto wins – and lock himself in as a genuine challenger for the championship.

With the 22-year old dominant in Victoria, the onus is on his rivals to step up and take the fight to him from the Canberra round to put a hurdle in his early form.

First in line to answer that challenge are KTM Racing Team pair Byron Dennis (NSW) and Dylan Walsh (Vic) – equal second in the points on 40 – who each scored podium finishes at Wonthaggi and showed solid signs of forming a great partnership as teammates.

Meanwhile, brothers Kayd and Ryder Kingsford (both Honda, NSW) had a great first outing in Wonthaggi and no doubt have more in the tank to build upon.

Others aiming to throw a spanner in the works include Yamaha trio Noah Ferguson (Qld), Koby Hantis (NSW) and Seth Burchell (NSW), aswell as Rhys Budd (Honda, Qld) who are all fierce challengers in their own right.

Yamaha pairing Jack Deveson (NSW) and Hayden Draper (NZ) were dominant in Wonthaggi, setting the tone with great pace between the two of them and will aim to capitalise on this momentum in Canberra.

Behind them are KTM pair Jackson Fuller (Qld) and Riley Burgess (NSW), Heath Fisher (Honda, Qld), Seth Thomas (GasGas, NSW), Kyle Harvey (KTM, Qld), Hayden Downie (Yamaha, Qld), Drew Kremer (GasGas, NSW) and Jobe Dunne (Yamaha, Vic).

As per normal, the starting gates of the Maxxis MX3 grid will be stacked with potential, where riders equip themselves with the skills and knowledge needed to make a smooth transition into the MX1 and MX2 classes.

Canberra will stage the second of three rounds for the Fox Racing MX85 Cup class, and the riders on two-stroke machinery will again be out to show the ProMX landscape what they are capable of.

Blake Bohannon (Yamaha, NSW) came out firing in Wonthaggi, but has strong opposition behind him led by Jayce Stocker (Honda, WA), Liam Millard (GasGas, NSW), Oli Chandler (KTM, NSW) and Koby Binnion (GasGas, Vic), all of whom will be sure to keep him in check.
